Spectacular Flaming Meteor Effect.

In previous tutorials you've seen two smoke effects that I've created, but let's face it, you can't have smoke without a fire somewhere. So in this tutorial, I will show you how to create a fire effect similar to when a spaceship or comet enters the earth's atmosphere. The image we'll be creating is inspired by a Nike Ad I saw some time ago. I'm not sure what the URL is. If anyone knows it, please link us up in the comments.

It's always a good idea to keep your eyes open for inspiration for effects and designs no matter what you are doing. Graphics are everywhere and you can learn a lot by looking at what other people do. Now on to the tutorial!

Transparent Glass Lettering in Photoshop.

In this tutorial, we're going to use some super layer effects and a bit of extra magic to make a lettering style that looks transparent and stunning. Because there is so much use of layer styles, you need to download the sample PSD from the link at the bottom of the tutorial in order to follow along.

Step 1:

BACKGROUND LAYER

To begin this tutorial, we'll first give ourselves a nice background gradient. Now while most gradients are two-color, in Photoshop you can actually make much more complex gradients by clicking on the Gradient icon in the top left. You'll get a panel showing the gradient and you can add more colors to it. In this case, I've used three colors to make a gradual change from green to a set of blues.

Multi-color gradients can make for a stunning background. I've used a Radial Gradient and centered it to the bottom right.

Spectacular Grass Text Effect in Photoshop.

Ever wanted to make text out of grass? Well with Photoshop you can. In this tutorial we'll create a rather cool-looking grass-text effect using a photo of grass, the Pen Tool and a bit of patience.

This is the first of a five-part set of tutorials where we'll use Photoshop to make text out of all sorts of things. So let's get ready to Photoshop!

Step 1: Background

This tutorial is made up of three parts—the background, the text itself, and some final extra effects. So first of all we're going to make a background. To do this we create a new document in Photoshop. I made mine 1920 x 1200 because I want this image to sit on my laptop background.

We start by drawing a Radial Gradient with the Gradient Tool (G) going from a light yellow-green (#adbf41) to a mid-range green (#328a26). I wonder if I've ever written a tutorial that doesn't start with a radial gradient. :-)

Create Hellicous Fire: Tutorial

In this tutorial, we'll go through all the steps of creating a flaming skull in Photoshop. We'll be using some images we shot ourself of flames, and a stock Designious vector skull to get us started. This tutorial covers some relatively simple steps and some clever photo manipulation techniques. Let's get to it!

For this tutorial, I used Photoshop CS3, a skull from Designious.com (you could choose to use a free skull though, such as Skull Vector Pack 1) and some hi-res flames images. The high-res image files are available to Psd Plus members in the download pack. Though non-members are certainly welcome to shoot your own flame photos or find some stock to use here, so you can follow along.

To get things started, create a new document 210mm by 290mm with a 100% black background.

Good afternoon everyone today were going to be creating a futuristic orb style wallpaper/image. First we’ll be creating a nice blue glassy orb, then we’ll go onto creating some flawlessy shiney metal surrounding. The quality of the end result will be high, although might not look so on my images due to them being .GIF’s. Right lets get started.

How Create Glowing Orb With Dial Photoshop

In this Photoshop tutorial we’ll be experimenting with layers and styles to create a cool glowing orb and dial effect. This tutorial is written with an intermediate to advanced user in mind but I think anyone who knows their way around Photoshop shouldn’t have a problem reproducing this effect.

Lets dive in and get rockin’! If you’re going to follow along at home I suggest you name your layers the same as mine so it’ll be easier to follow along.

I’m starting with a document size of 540×400 at 72ppi and I’ve laid down a radial gradient in the background from #242427 to #005400.

On a new layer which I’ll name Base I’ve created a perfectly round Elliptical Selection 390×390px and filled it with #2F323A and deselected. At this point I’m going to press Command-A (PC: Ctrl-A) to select the entire canvas, then V to switch to the Move tool. Using the Align Horizontal Centers and Align Vertical Centers buttons in the Move tool options bar at the top of Photoshop I’m going to center the circle on the stage. This step is very important because everything in the layers above will also use this centering technique to insure symmetry. Nvidia pushes out low-cost DX10.1 GeForce GT240

Built on a 40nm process and featuring a 550MHz GPU, 1GHz GDDR3 or 1.7GHz GDDR5 and up to 1GB of memory, it has all the basic workings of a robust card. It's also DirectX 10.1 compliant, has 96 CUDA cores, 8 ROP units and a max TDP of 70W.

Though the card does have a nice selling price, there are some obvious drawbacks. It won't stand up to a lot of other sub-$100 video cards from previous generations, and will definitely fall short of mid-level cards from this generation. No doubt, Nvidia's goal with the GT240 was to get an entry-level DX10.1 card out the door, hoping to fill any gaps in their 2xx series lineup that AMD might target.

Nvidia may be putting this card directly up against the HD 4650, a notable entry from AMD that typically falls well below the $100 mark. Is Nvidia feeling pressure from AMD, or was this just a casual response to get more hardware in the low-cost arena? We will have a full review on the GeForce GT240 soon

Futuristic Rollable Laptop – Rolltop

Just came across an interesting video about the new concept of laptop design – Rolltop. The new laptop design concept will be using flexible OLED display on both the display panel and keyboard.
The virtual keyboard will replace the conventional physical keyboard so that the 13-inch laptop can easily transforms into the graphics tablet, which with its 17-inch flat screen. The utility of this laptop is wide as you can use it as a primary monitor as well.The designer of this futuristic rollable laptop is thoughtful enough to integrate the power supply and stylus into the carrying belt, and call it Rolltop! Nvidia GeForce graphics card

AMD officially lifted the curtain today on its much-anticipated Radeon HD 5970, a dual-GPU solution which as of today has become the world's fastest graphics card on the market.

Packed with some pretty impressive specs, the new card outclasses the competition in every benchmark thrown at it with ease, and puts AMD at the head of the high-end graphics segment for the first time in a long while.

Not one to just sit on the sidelines and let its rival get all the glory, Nvidia is hoping to build some anticipation for its upcoming DirectX 11 lineup by showing a picture of what appears to be the first working sample of a 40nm, GF100 desktop card based on the Fermi architecture. Posted on the company's Facebook account, the picture shows a black GeForce-branded card installed on an ASUS Rampage II Extreme LGA 1366 motherboard, running Uningine's Heaven DirectX 11 benchmark on a Dell 24-inch monitor.

Details are scarce, as even the corner showing framerates has been cut off, but from what little we can see the card covers two slots and packs an 8-pin plus 6-pin PCI Express connector, meaning it can suck up to 300W and will likely provide healthy overclocking headroom. Expectations are running quite high for Nvidia's answer to the Radeon HD 5800 series, although clock and overall performance numbers remain unknown.
